“Two cables from New Road supplying 11th Road were stolen and this resulted in power outage. Technicians were busy with repairs and have replaced the stolen cables, with electricity being restored on 11 April.” However, the cables were once again stolen.
“City Power apologises for any inconvenience caused to its customers,” he said.
Ravi Moonsamy, a resident who was affected by the power outtage in 11th Road, said they heard rumours of cable theft. “We heard rumours that cables were stolen but City Power should have told residents about the outage first. Power went on and off all day from 9 April until 11 April.”
“City Power contacted me on 11 April to explain that cables were stolen, replaced and then stolen again. On Friday we had a generator on our road but electricitty finally came on at around 2pm.”
On 14 April Moonsamy confirmed that power is still on. “Let’s hope we will not have any more surprises this week. If there is load shedding or cable theft, City Power must quickly notify residents. We spent a good part of last week wondering what is wrong. It is bad for business and affects our home lives as well.”
