Beauty for hygiene

OLIEVENHOUTBOSCH - Dimphonyana Orphanage is earmarked to receive a supply of sanitary products.

A beauty pageant is set to aid this hygiene drive in May, but it needs the support of the Midrand community, according to chief executive officer of Pink Pepper Performing Arts Academy, Tsholofelo Bilankulu.

Miss African Royalty pageant seeks to empower young women all over Gauteng and aims to promote beauty with a purpose. Bilankulu said, “We want to build women and young girls that are not only adored for their outer beauty, but also their minds and hearts. This beauty pageant is aimed at celebrating females of all ages, as well as fight against social stigma and the media influenced idea of beauty.

“We believe it oozes from within, and it is based on how you perceive yourself as an individual.”

While the event will take place at Hoerskool Uitsig in Centurion, it has relevance to the Midrand community as it will aid the Midrand-based orphanage in Olivenhoutbosch.

Bilankulu and colleague, Pascaline Sehularo started the Pink Pepper Hygiene Drive for girls as an initiative to supply sanitary pads, panty liners, deodorant, underwear, and razors.

Bilankulu said, “10 percent of all proceeding will go to Pink Pepper Hygiene Drive for girls in the form of a supply of sanitary products.”

The pageant will begin with an hour workshop on image, confidence, self-love and respect before the competition begins. The title winner will assume the role of a royal ambassador for various organisations including the Pink Pepper Hygiene Drive for girls.

Children from three years old and up are welcome to participate, and Bilankulu hopes Midrand community members will attend. “There are no weight, height and age restrictions. This is for every female out there,” said Bilankulu.

The event organisers are still looking for donations and sponsorships, and ask community members to contribute.
