City Power billing woes

VORNA VALLEY - A resident from Vorna Valley who asked to remain anonymous said City Power had continued to bill him for electricity use he had not used.

He said, “I often do not cook from home and watch two hours of TV a day. I have a solar geyser and do not use electrical backup, but City Power claims I am using electricity even though I have been disconnected from the grid since 15 November 2013.

“Since 9 November 2013 until 11 February 2014 I have received readings of 589 000kWh, 735 000kWh, 200 000kWh and 600 000kWh.”

He said he reported the matter to Joburg Connect in January this year, but received a standard response and more bills. “When I called City Power they claimed my readings are actual readings not just guessed figures. I do not understand how this can be true as I use very little electricity and now use solar power.”

City Power spokesperson Sidney Mphahlele said the complainant should call Joburg Connect and the matter would be referred to the billing department which would check if the billing process was not correctly followed.
