Mr SA contestant hosts star studded event for charity

RIVONIA - Mr South Africa contestant, Jaco Gerrits hosted a star-studded event at the Barnyard Theatre in Rivonia to raise funds for Joost van der Westhuizen's J9 Foundation.

The J9 Foundation was started by rugby legend, Van der Westhuizen to offer physical and emotional support to sufferers of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis of which Van der Westhuizen is a sufferer. The J9 Foundation has been chosen as the official charity for the Mr South Africa 2014 pageant. “The J9 Foundation really resounds with me in terms of what the disease does to you,” Gerrits said. “Suddenly you struggle to do things we take for granted like speaking, walking and breathing.”

Apart from his involvement in the pageant Gerrits is also a successful businessman, award winning entrepreneur, innovator and speaker. He is the founder and CEO of Dynamus Technologies, a company that has researched, designed, developed and successfully implemented numerous technology solutions across various industries.

He said he entered Mr South Africa because the values of the pageant resounded with his own core principles. Gerrits is also passionate about entrepreneurship in South Africa and should he become the next Mr South Africa he would like to use the platform to promote and encourage this.

The event also hosted the current Mr South Africa, John Owens and Afrikaans music maestros, the Houlson twins.
