Pay less tax – donate to a charity

BEAULIEU- The end of February marks the end of the financial year and also the perfect time for companies and individuals to consider donating to a charity.

Michelle Hinrichsen, the funding co-ordinator at Botshabelo, an orphanage based in Beaulieu which cares for babies and children who have been abandoned as a result of HIV and poverty, said, “The end of the financial year can be like a green monster lurking around the corner but there is a way to make it a little less scary. ”

She explained that if companies or individuals make a donation to a credible charity before the end of February they will not only be helping the charity, but themselves too.

“You’ll be making a difference to the charity by offering them funds to continue their work but you’ll also be doing yourself a favour when it comes to tax,” Hinrichsen said.

She explained that any donation made to a section 18A registered charity is tax deductible, which means that your taxable amount is lowered. “You can donate up to 10 percent of your income to receive this incentive,” Hinrichsen said.

The incentive is available to companies and individuals, for donations of any size.

Botshabelo is one of the section 18A charities in the area. To find out more about the orphanage or to donate to them contact Michelle Hinrishsen.
