School has no matric passes

MIDRAND - According to reports, an independent school in Midrand did appallingly in the 2013 matric examinations.

Boulders Techno School received zero passes for the six pupils who sat the exams. The school is on Richard’s Drive in Midrand and reportedly charges R1 600 per month for tuition.

The school principal, Dr Prince Sinamane, told Midrand Reporter that the six pupils who wrote matric were “not A students”. Sinamane said, “The six were mediation pupils from other schools. Their Grade 11 reports were not great; we gave them remedial classes. Those matrics must not be used to weigh the intelligence capacity and quality of learners at Boulders Techno School.”

Sinamane added, “In 2012 we had nine pupils who wrote matric and the school had a 67% pass rate. That was a true reflection of our school.”

The principal stated, “We will not take any matric students for the next two to three years, so that we [only] take learners from our own primary school.”

“It is interesting that as I speak there is a long queue of parents who want to enrol matric learners with our school but we are going to turn them away. The matric pupils who failed are going to supplement with us, and hopefully they will do well,” Sinamane added.

Boulder’s Techno School’s website states that the school is “the first technology school in South Africa with a great dosage of technology”.

In June 2012, Midrand Reporter reported that Sinamane was accused of not paying teaching staff for over three months. In August 2012 there were allegations that a former pupil was sexually assaulted in a classroom by another pupil but Sinamane refuted the allegations and said that the incident involved two pupils who were swearing at each other and he sat down with both pupils and reproached them for the incident.
