Brother’s friend rapes sister

Midrand police communication officer Constable Matome Tlamela said the suspect was known to the police, but had not been arrested.

“According to the information we received, we suspect he has escaped to Tanzania, where he was reportedly seen,” she said.

Tlamela said the complainant was watching television when one of her brother’s friends came into her room naked and he pointed a knife at her.

“She quickly stood up and asked him what he wanted and he said he wanted her,” she said. “He jumped into the bed and he undressed her by force.”

The complainant was wearing only her underwear and a T-shirt and she asked him to use a condom. “While she was busy looking for the condom, he put the knife on top of the table,” she said. “According to the complainant, she grabbed the knife and ran out of the house, but the suspect managed to overpower her and he raped her.”

Tlamela advised all victims of crime to report cases of abuse and reminded the public that they have the right to say no.

“No one has the right to force you to do sexual activity, no matter what your relationship with this person is,” she said. “This means no one can force you to have sex, or touch you in a sexual way without your consent, or force you to perform sexual activity you find unpleasant or humiliating. Remember a sexual assault is not your fault.”
