New bridge built on Old Pretoria

MIDRAND - One weekend's delayed traffic promises a future of free-flowing traffic in Midrand.

On 19 and 20 October, the N1 north and south-bound carriageways at the Le Roux Avenue overpass, north of Allandale Road, were closed every thirty minutes to allow safe construction on the Le Roux Bridge.

Construction took place between the Old Pretoria Main Road intersection, the R101, and the Bekker Street intersection.

Senior project engineer at the South African National Roads Agency, Hennie Kotze, said, “The doubling of Le Roux Avenue will provide additional capacity to cross the N1 and ease congestion of traffic along places like the New Road Interchange on the N1 in Midrand.

“The project is expected to be completed early next year. It is managed by the South African National Roads Agency and funded by the Johannesburg Roads Agency. The total length of the road, including the new bridge, is 1000m. The value of the work is (set at) R40.5 million.”
