A woman who does not want to be mentioned said, “For the past two years, every Thursday night, just about 20 drivers street race on Samrand Avenue , it is dangerous for residents to be sharing the road with people who do not stick to the rules of the road. Reckless driving puts a lot of people in danger.” She added, “We have reported the matter to the Road Traffic Management Corporation but the street racing has not stopped.”
Senior Superintendent and media liaison officer for the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department, Isaac Mahamba said, “We received the complaint about illegal street racing on Samrand Avenue and Rietspruit Road. We deployed our members around Rietspruit Road and Samrand Avenue and we could not find any illegal activity, and we will continue to deploy, just for monitoring reasons.”
