A call to Midrand talent

MIDRAND - Three Midrand artists aim to give upcoming singers, rappers and poets in Midrand a platform to showcase their works.

Abiot Ledwaba, Sizwe Mbiza and Joachim Mamabolo have named their event Open Mic.

Ledwaba said, “It has come to our attention that a lot of people have talent and they have their music and artworks, but they have no one to showcase it to. Our purpose is to bridge the gap between the audience and the artist itself, because it’s fatuous for them to keep their art to themselves.”

He said in April, he and his fellow organisers attended the Back To The City event in Newtown, but were saddened that no Midrand residents represented the area. “We got together to discuss what we would do about this issue and we came up with Open Mic. We also didn’t want to seem too common. Our aim is to conduct something that is soothing to the mind, but never boring,” said Ledwaba. “The aim is to entertain people of all ages and to bond artistically and

hopefully create a relationship where we can help one another grow.”

The event organisers also film videos of the artists and talk about music issues.
