Women in public safety help the disabled

IVORY PARK - On 29 August public safety women from the City of Joburg, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police and Emergency Medical Services joined hands to offer support to two disadvantaged places, one being Tumelo Home for the Disabled in Ivory Park and the other, Lehlohonolo Community Centre in Rosettenville.

The women in uniform started at 11am at the centre and proceeded to the home at 12pm.

The home caters for 36 children ranging from the ages of four to 15 years who are mentally disabled while the centre constantly needs resources like nappies, food, medicines and generators.

Communications officer for public safety, Lina Moganedi said, “As part of the ongoing Joburg 2040 Strategy outreach programme, women in uniform saw a need to contribute positively to the community we serve.”

At the home the public safety women worked together to bring bags of vegetables and tins of food which was gratefully received by the managing director Solly Khuthama.

Khuthama led the women on a tour to show them their facilities and where they needed help.

He explained the daily running of the home before leading the women into the hall where the children were getting ready to eat lunch.

The public safety women did not hesitate in getting involved, serving up lunch and feeding some of the children that needed assistance.

Khuthama said, “We are really appreciative to the women in public safety for having made our children’s day so happy. We are so thankful.”
