Plea to help rhino orphanage

KYALAMI - The Kyalami community have been big supporters of The Rhino Orphanage, and now the non-commercial centre is hoping they will help again.

The Rhino Orphanage is a specialised centre that cares for baby rhinos which are orphaned due to the rhino poaching trade.

While the centre is based in Limpopo Province, it has become well-known to the Kyalami public.

In April, the SA Lipizzaners hosted a fundraiser to raise awareness for the orphanage. In August, Kyalami-based horse rider Inge Rall-Behm completed the Mongol Derby to raise awareness for the orphanage and the rhino poaching trade.

Glenferness’s Michalakis sisters, Markella, Dimitra, Gabriella and Natalya also did their bit by making bracelets with rhino charms for Rall-Behm to hand out to people on her travels.

The orphanage’s Gina Boxley said more help was needed to raise funds for the centre as its celebrated its first anniversary in August.

“The Rhino Orphanage sadly is running at breaking capacity due to all the poaching, but we are holding on for dear life and hoping that some miracle will

help us stop this horrendous slaughter. We are desperate for large sponsorships to keep the orphanage going,” said Boxley.
