Let us help the Midrand SPCA

Janet Schofield writes:

MANY of your readers are aware that I have been a volunteer and supporter of Midrand SPCA for more than 14 years.

Two years ago, the Midrand SPCA was in the same position it is now.

There was a wonderful response from the public and businesses that has kept them going up until this time. It is these supporters who made it possible for them to carry on their good work.

The constant battle for food has been brought about due to there no longer being a regular supply from animal food companies.

In recent years, the suppliers were happy to donate their “waste” – products that were unsaleable due to packing or production defects. Unfortunately for organisations like the SPCA, improved production processes and quality controls have eliminated most of the “waste”.

So yet again there is very little food and no money to buy. If the Midrand SPCA has to close in less than six weeks the nearest pound is Sandton.

What will happen to those animals brought in from the surrounding areas, especially from the vast townships? I have no doubt there will be a huge increase in abandoned and untreated animals.

Please help the SPCA to help those who cannot help themselves.
