Roedean triumph at Old Mutual Water Polo Prestige Cup

The final round of the Roedean Old Mutual Water Polo Prestige Cup took place at the school on the weekend.

The day kicked off with the semi-final between Roedean and Kingsmead. The home side dominated the match to secure their sport in the final. The final score was 7 – 4 in Roedean’s favour.

The second semi final was between Crawford and St Peter’s. Crawford took command early on and held off a tenacious St Peter’s side to secure their final sport 8 – 4.

While the Roedean and Crawford girl’s waited to play the final match the place matches got underway. St Stithian’s took on St Dominic’s to fight for ninth place. Saints won 11 – 1. St Dunstan’s took seventh place after beating Rand Park high school 10 – 4 and St Mary’s beat Pretoria Girls high school 6 – 1 to claim fifth position.

The bronze medal match between Kingsmead and St Peter’s was full of excitement. Both teams were evenly match and at full time the score was five all. This sent the game into extra time during which neither were able to score. A penalty shoot out was called for and again no score was forthcoming. The game was finally decided in a sudden death shoot out with St Peter’s edging a goal past the Kingsmead keeper.

In the final Roedean fought hard for their goals against Crawford’s strong defensive team. The hard work paid off when the full time whistle blew with Roedean two goals in the lead. They won the tournament with a score of 9 – 7.
