Midrand youngster finishes in top 3 at e-Sports competition

MIDRAND – Local gamer AJ Karaki comes second in the African FortNite Cup in Pretoria recently.

At the recent Rush e-Sports Expo in Pretoria, the first official Vodacom4u African FortNite Cup was hosted by Cape Town’s African Cyber Gaming Division.

Despite never playing the Fortnite online game, Midrand’s AJ Karaki made the cut to the top eight and qualified for the final round of 16 where he placed second overall in the African tournament.

“I did not have a computer or phone to practise on before the tournament, so the first time I played FortNite was when I sat down for the first game,” he said.

“I had watched others play it but never tried it myself.”

The 10-year-old homeschooled gamer said he was surprised to achieve second place in the competition.

“I enjoyed the experience of playing the most popular game in the world and I believe it will help me in my career as a gaming Youtuber.”

Fortnite is currently the world’s most popular online game with more than 150 million downloads and a record 3,5 million gamers competing online at the same time.
