Super Rovers host pageants to select local young ambassadors
Local young girls were given an opportunity to enter the pageants which took place at Kanana Community Hall.
For brands to reach young people today, collaborations and campaigns based on people’s shared values and interests are vital.
To this end, and to encourage girls to get to know soccer while doing something they are comfortable with such as modelling, Sanele Khuzwayo, and other local well-known models joined forces with Super Rovers FC to search for the Face of Rovers.
Local girls were given the opportunity to enter this pageant and after months of selections based on how dedicated the young models were, the finalists were selected for the final runway at Kanana Community Hall.
“Our models were so talented in a way that it was even hard for us as organisers to tell who will be our first ever Miss Rovers Queen and I am glad to say that we were able to work together as a team,” said Khuzwayo.
Phomelelo Mashabela was crowned Miss Rovers Queen, Naledi Phiri was the first princess, Karabo Racheku bagged second princess, Nomusa Mbuli won Miss Personality, and Kamogelo Boshomane was voted Miss Public Choice.
Among their duties as the faces of Rovers, also known as ‘Marovers’, will be attending every match, promoting the club brand, and reaching out to the community to teach girls about sports among other duties.
Khuzwayo said although there were not many young girls interested in soccer, the sport had a huge impact on fashion, and that would attract most girls.
Mashabela expressed her gratitude to the organisers and said the platform was huge not just for her but for every local girl. “I didn’t think much about losing but all I planned was to be authentic, do my best, and have fun on stage,” said Mashabela.
“This is the greatest opportunity for me and it will help me grow in the industry so that I will be able to pass that knowledge and set an example to the next one in line.”
