Fashion designers pop up in Waterfall

MIDRAND – The South African Fashion Week showcased new women's collections plus crowned new models to work with Boss Models Agency.

After more than a month of scouting and training young models and exposing them to the fashion industry on 8 September, the South African Fashion Week announced the two winners who were awarded a one-year contract with Boss Modelling Agency.

The three-day pop-up show saw designers meet up in Waterfall to showcase their latest designs.

Lucilla Booysen, who is the chief executive officer of the South-African Fashion Week, explained the importance of them giving designers and models a platform.

She added, “It is very important for us to give designers an opportunity to connect with their consumers, to build their database, to sell their garments, to make contact and be able to do research, that is why we do the SAFW pop-up shops.

“The place is beautiful and this gives the designers a chance to actually be in a luxury environment.”

Booysen also elaborated on the SAFW’s initiative where they find new faces – called the Mall of Africa Face of Fashion.

“We started two months ago, scouting all over, we scouted Midrand, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, Pretoria and we brought the finalists right here to Waterfall. We then chose 20 girls from about 140 girls who went through training and that ended in two becoming the Face of Fashion.”
