School starts at Halfway House

MIDRAND – More than 200 children started school at Halfway House Primary School on 17 January.

Halfway House Primary School kick-started their academic year by welcoming 240 Grade 1 children on their first day of school.

“Our learners are all ready for school and they had met with their teachers during our open day in November last year. The online application system went smoothly and those who were on the waiting list got an opportunity to be considered,” said principal of Halfway House Primary School, Silas Pillay.

Although there were still some parents seeking admission for their children, Pillay said the department would address the matter and would advise them in due course.

The 240 new Grade 1s were allocated to six different classes of 40 children per class. Six-year-old Ronewa Mgimeti clung to her mother as tears ran down her face. Blessing Ndlovu was excited about the first day of school. “I’m looking forward to writing,” Ndlovu said. His mother Patricia said she was happy with the application system and her child’s academic journey.
