Seven-year-old boy wins motorsport titles

ON 14 SEPTEMBER a seven-year-old Midrand young child Jarrod Waberski sealed the Northern Regions Cadet Kart championship in Vereeniging. Waberski joined a long list of drivers who have won motorsport titles while competing in the DAW team.

Steve Wicks, motorsport, transport media specialist and photographer said, “Waberski is a son of a former British Formula 3 racer and South African Shelby Can-Am champion Garth Waberski. Jarrod began racing in the cadet class for drivers between four and eight years old in 2011. In 2012 he was the Rand Kart Club Cadet champion.”

Wicks added, “This year Jarrod made his debut in the Mini-Rok category where he competed against 12-year-olds. Despite the massive difference in physical strength and mental attitude, Jarrod did not disgrace himself, but it was decided to rather concentrate on the cadet class. The decision paid off handsomely at Vereeniging on Saturday where he came second in the first three races. With the championship won he elected to sit out the remaining races on the day.”

Garth Waberski, Jarrod’s father said, “I am proud of Jarrod. It is nice to see a young child so focused and dedicated and performing so well. It is unbelievable that a seven-year-old has achieved so much.”
