Midrand High School athletes make a great stand at the Prestige Athletics

Midrand High School relay team Zotha Zwane, Awesome Muswenra, Wisdom Uduanah, and Jodie Mokadiya got second place at the Prestige Athletics.

Athletics is not merely a competition, it is a testament to hard work, dedication, and the unyielding spirit of youth.

Recently, learner athletes from Midrand High School stepped onto the track at the prestigious Prestige Athletics event at Germiston Stadium, hosted by the English Co-ed English schools group. The learners left an indelible mark with their impressive performances.

Under the midday sun on August 21, Midrand emerged as a formidable contender in the athletics arena.

Competing against elite teams from the likes of Ferndale High School and Pinnacle College Waterfall to name a few, the athletes embodied perseverance and teamwork, bringing home three second-place finishes and one notable third-place finish.

This success is not just measured in medals, it reflects the intense preparation, commitment, and passion each athlete brought to the event.

Among the throng of talented competitors, certain individuals stood out, showcasing remarkable skill and determination.

Mombathisi Ndzotyana got second position in 800m and third in 1 500m.

Jodie Mokadiya captured the spotlight by clinching second place in the 100m event, a testament to his explosive speed and relentless training.

Similarly, Mombathisi Ndzotyana consistently demonstrated his prowess on the track, earning a silver medal in the 800m race, following it up with a highly respectable third place in the 1 500m.

Not to be outdone, the U19 boys relay team exhibited sensational co-ordination and spirit, finishing in second place after a tightly contested race.

Comprising Jodie, Wisdom Uduanah, Zotha Zwane, and Awesome Muswenra, their performance encapsulated the essence of teamwork, illustrating how collaborative efforts can lead to outstanding success.

At the helm of this impressive performance was Arthur Joshua, head of sports at Midrand High.

Expressing his pride in the learner athletes, Joshua acknowledged the hard work of each participant. “I am so very proud of all the athletes that participated in the Athletics Prestige.”

His gratitude extended not only to the athletes but also to the dedicated coaching staff and teachers, particularly Lebogang Shovhote, whose commitment to training long-distance runners has helped cultivate their belief in themselves.
