Glen Austin Conservancy says Pitzer Road still not rehabilitated for over two months

Ward 92 councillor Charmaine Ngoepe said she had reported the matter 10 times to JRA and Joburg Water.

The Glen Austin Conservancy (GAC) group is irate at Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and Johannesburg Water (JW) for failing to rehabilitate Pitzer Road.

April 8 marked two months since JRA damaged a water pipe on that road while conducting routine maintenance to clear the stormwater channels.

GAC chairperson Dave Allanby said the pavement had been left an eyesore by the two entities. “This all began on February 8 and we received a reference number on February 23. The reference number therefore remains open as there has been zero attempts to rehabilitate the sidewalk despite JRA and JW telling Midrand Reporter that a plan with a timeline would be forthcoming,” said Allanby.

In the article, Whose responsibility is it – JRA or JW? [Week ending 8 March], the two entities said assessments were ongoing, and a rehabilitation plan would be issued with completion dates. However, to date, nothing has been done nor communicated with the residents.
On March 27, Allanby said Ward 92 councillor Charmaine Ngoepe told him she had followed up with JRA and JW for the 10th time.

The publication contacted Ngoepe on April 2 and she said, “The acting regional director [Hlobohang Phamoli-Gamede] has summoned JW to fix that issue once and for all. That was just before the Easter weekend but I will check during the week in terms of progress.”

JRA and JW were contacted on March 26, April 2 and 8 for comment but had not replied at the time of going to print.
