Newly elected Midrand CPF chairperson calls for continuity

Midrand CPF chairperson Tracy Basson urge community members to work closely with sector managers and report crime instantly.

Former deputy chairperson of the Midrand CPF Tracy Basson, who has been elected to the hot seat, urges community members to work with sector managers to fight crime.

Basson takes over from Steven Johnson who has been at the throne for a decade. She has been a Sector 2 Crime Forum chairperson but stepped down during the recently held elections of the sector forums.

Basson was elected unopposed at the Midrand SAPS boardroom on November 15. She will be assisted by Anton van Niekirk as the deputy and Marianne Nel as the secretary.

The deputy secretary position was contested by Jonathan ‘Joe’ Burrows and Chris Gatsi. From ten voters, which were two people from the five Sector Crime Forums, Burrows emerged victorious with seven votes. Andrew Paterson will be the treasurer and Percy Ingle as the public relations officer.

Basson said he will literally continue from where Johnson left off and has a plan to try to curb crime. “We have got plans and adapt to the changes that we do our very best to try to ensure that we make Midrand safe. We have learnt a lot from the outgoing exco, and I hope we will get the support from the community. We undertake that we do our best. We have a plan, that will roll out in due course, but we will need resources,” said Basson.

Basson said, “I think crime needs everyone involved. It is not only up to us as the CPF and the sector crime forums to fight crime. Members of the community need to report any crime to the authorities. But most importantly, they need to ensure that they have contact numbers of their sector managers,” added Tracy.

She thanked Johnson for guiding her through the ropes since she first joined in her first operation about nine years ago.
