Local soccer teams urged to register for the Midrand Diski Challenge

There won't be any time for coaches to go back to training and rectify mistakes, as the tournament will all take place in one day over two fields.

In conjunction with Logicworld Advertising and Aquelle Viv, The Mologadi Johannes Tuba Foundation will be hosting the first-ever Midrand Diski Challenge on September 30.

The tournament aims to bring together talented football players from around the region to showcase their skills, sportsmanship, and love of the game.

This event promises thrilling matches, great camaraderie, and memorable moments for both players and spectators.

According to the tournament’s marketing and fundraising officer, Johnny Tuba, over 55 teams from Midrand and the surrounding area have already signed up to participate in the tournament, but only 16 teams will advance since it is a Top 16 tournament.

Although we have exceeded the number of teams, we will still choose on a first-pay basis,” said Tuba.

A specific venue in Midrand for the knockout hasn’t been chosen yet, but Tuba said they have three options, including Midrand High School, Curro Waterfall, and Beaulieu College.

“This is the first disc challenge in Midrand, and we aim to have this event annually,” Tuba explained.

“This tournament provides an opportunity for young footballers to showcase their skills and develop their talent. It not only promotes physical wellness but also encourages teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among the participants.

“Our aim is to partner with local corporations to provide a platform for aspiring players to be scouted by professional clubs and potentially secure scholarships or contracts.

“This can be life-changing for talented individuals who may not have had access to such opportunities. Overall, the tournament offers numerous benefits for the community, including the promotion of youth development, the discovery of raw talent, and the cultivation of a strong sense of community spirit.”

There won’t be any time for coaches to go back to training and rectify mistakes, as the tournament will all take place in one day over two fields.

The top four teams will have automatic qualification for the Champions Cup, which will be hosted next year.

“Besides witnessing local skills and talent, spectators may also have access to various entertainment and activities. This can include half-time performances, music, food stalls, and merchandise related to the tournament or the teams involved.”

Prizes to be won include an R5000 cash prize and a brand new soccer kit for the winners, and runners-up will also receive medals, trophies, and training equipment.

The community, local corporations, and businesses are also encouraged to get involved in this tournament to uplift and support young players.
