Coach aspire to professional accolades

Katlego Masia, who started his coaching career at the tender age 17 years old, hopes to make a name for himself in women's football.

Unlike other children who dreamed of becoming soccer players, Super Midrand Football Academy coach, Katlego Masia wanted to lead his team from the sideline.

The young boy from Limpopo in Bolobedu, Ga-Matshwi, followed his dreams. He began his coaching career at the tender age of 17 in June 2019 after his long-term injury.

He formed the team which participates in the Midrand Local Football Association’s Women League.
Since then, Masia, 20, has won six trophies – one gold, two bronze and three silvers as a coach. And his trophy-laden cabinet has taught him everything is possible as long as you know what you want.
“When I came to Gauteng, I was playing for the local team, then I noticed that most coaches are not building a team for careers but they are doing this for their benefit.
“I decided to start a ladies’ soccer team around my area because of the love I have for football. I started the team to minimise drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and all those silly things that continue to hold back young girls in many townships,” said Masia.

He was raised by his aunt and her husband following his biological mother passing away.
He said he was looking forward to seeing his team reach the National League level (Hollywood) although their focus at the moment was to win the Regional league next season.

Masia concluded that after watching Mamelodi Sundowns’ ladies’ team lift women’s Nation ladies and CAF accolades, he vowed to himself that one day his team (Midrand Super Ladies) will also be one of the teams that lifted those trophies during his tenure.
