During the presentation, the speakers explained the importance of ethics in the legal profession and that ethical conduct lies at the heart of every lawyer.

“Three years ago, I was in the same situation as you and our first years are in today – I unequivocally swore to uphold the values of The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall and more so I pledged with the utmost pride my commitment to upholding the legal profession as well as the Constitution of this country,” said Maria.

“Nothing felt better than knowing that this was my first step in me being able to play my part in ensuring that from that day onwards I would lead with integrity, lead in a values-based manner and uphold the rule of law to the extent of my ability.”

The college believes that ethics in the legal profession requires awareness of ethical issues that arise in practice, awareness of own values and dispositions, awareness of situational pressures and behaviour modification, and making choices.
