Simphiwe Jack Mabaso gets his breakthrough role in the entertainment industry

Mabaso recently landed a role on SABC 3's drama series The Estate and the upcoming Shaka iLembe.

There is lots of excitement brewing for the local multi-talented Simphiwe Jack Mabaso as the actor has been cast in another production of SABC 3’s hit drama series, The Estate.

The Ivory Park-based jack of all trades has been making waves in the entertainment industry for quite some time now — as an actor, a musician, and has also participated in Tropika Island of Treasure season 10.

Having spent over a decade in the industry, this year certainly seems to be the year for Mabaso to break through on the big screen with his debut on The Estate on May 7 playing the role of Thato — a successful and dodgy businessman who runs a security company and an agency for prostitutes.

“I was sent an audition for the role of Thato by my agency, and as always, I prepared myself and killed my audition,” said Mabaso.

“Then a week later, I was called by my agent while I was with my family to confirm the good news that I got the role. I have never been so excited in my life as the day I received that call to say I got it.”

The premium drama which took to the screens on April 5, 2021, probes hot issues in South Africa including land and identity, corruption, patronage, money, power, class and equality, and is all told through a colourful mix of South African families that fight for their space in these topical debates.

Besides other shows he is yet to appear in for short roles, he is also set to appear on a reality dating show on SABC 2 called Love Is Love, and as Mgadi in the upcoming drama series — Shaka iLembe airing on Mzansi Magic on June 18.

“It [Love is Love] is a series of dating reality shows whereby I embark on adventures and dates with single ladies only to pick one at the end.”

“The short roles are very interesting because you tend to find people who will love you regardless of whether they are short roles. Shaka iLembe is an absolute hit coming to Mzansi and I am super excited about my acting career to finally reach this stage.”

As someone who advocates for youth upliftment, the former Eqisweni Secondary School learner encourages youth to never give up on their talent and continue studying.

“Never give up on education and your dreams. It is not easy at all because personally, it took me over 10 years of attending auditions, and getting rejected before I could secure a big role like this one.

“Another thing, youth should learn to research about agents and go for the most suitable ones that will help them get auditions. Patients and consistency are imperative because there is a season where everything is quiet and no jobs, so one needs to be strong emotionally,” he concluded.
