New trailer leaves Midrand SPCA staff ecstatic after a year of struggle
Midrand SPCA will no longer spend a lot of money on petrol when transporting animals to surgeries.
For more than a year, Midrand SPCA has been battling to transport animals and goods after their trailer became too dilapidated to use.
General manager Pam Pretorius said they posted on their Facebook page about a year ago, appealing to the public to assist them with repairing the old trailer, but with no luck.
However, thanks to Arco 360 pet insurance brokerage and Genric Pet Insurance, life became a little easier for the SPCA on March 30, when it took possession of its new custom-made dog trailer.
The donation will help them transport several animals at once, which will cost less in fuel than the multiple trips they were previously forced to make.
The new trailer will also be used for outreach work and transporting animals to the vet for surgeries that are not handled inhouse, explained Pretorius.
Director of Arco 360 Candice Hobday said Pretorius approached them after they had made a donation to the Boksburg SPCA. Hobday added, “We are passionate about animals and are happy that we are able to help thousands of animals that need medical attention from the SPCA.” SPCA inspector Theo Mokgatle said, “We now have room as we had limited space in the bakkies and cages we previously used.”
