Locals converge at Waterfall Ridge Centre for Juno Aurora Haven’s fundraiser

This home is built on hope, but needs some assistance – from plumbing, to paying for electricity, food, schooling fees, and clothing.

A non-profit organisation, Besizana recently collaborated with Streatery Waterfall Ridge and other local organisations to host a Valentine’s Rock and Laugh fundraiser for Juno Aurora Haven home.

The fundraiser took place at Waterfall Ridge Centre on February 26 with performances from musicians Tony King and Andrea Giglio.

Juno Aurora Haven was founded by Chaya Fenwick for children whose parents cannot support their children or abuse them and the authorities do not have the resources to support them or change their situations.

The founder of Besizana, Margie Kienast said it had become increasingly difficult for non-profit organisations to raise funds.

“We have been hosting such fundraisers since the beginning of this year and many more are about to come as we try to raise funds for this home in an entertaining manner,” said Kienast.

Currently, the haven is home to 23 children, the youngest being 24 months old and the oldest 13.

A volunteer at Aurora, Melody Eggar said recently the home’s vehicle broke down leaving them without any form of transport which was one of the reasons the fundraiser was initiated.

“Stocking up on supplies has become a challenge at this point. It is estimated that the vehicle will cost in excess of R35 000 to repair. In the ideal perfect world, this home needs a minibus,” said Eggar.

The home was built on hope, but needed some assistance, from plumbing to paying for electricity, food, school fees, clothing, and a vegetable garden, she added.

“We even trying to grow some vegetables but we are not too successful on this front as we need the correct soil, tools, a gardener, etc to try and maintain it.”
