Ward 92 councillor’s plans remain from last year’s CBP

Ward 92 councillor Charmaine Ngoepe, said, “Another challenge is illegal dumping everywhere."

Ward 92 councillor Charmaine Ngoepe said a new dumping site was being erected in Rabie Ridge for local residents.

This comes after the ward’s struggle with illegal dumping which saw an increase in illegal littering. This is as a result of the abrupt closure of the Dale Road dumping site in Glen Austin about five years ago. Ward 92 covers Glen Austin, President Park, parts of Ebony Park, Allandale and Kaalfontein.

Ngoepe said this when asked in an interview to share her plans with the residents of her ward for 2023. She said the plans have not shifted as much because there are three major things that she requested from the City through the presentation made during the Community-Based Planning (CBP) which have not yet materialised.
CBP sessions play an important role in local government as they ensure that residents are actively involved in their own development. They also assist communities to have an opportunity to plan for their own areas.

“Space for elderly people (a home), a drug abuse rehabilitation centre, skills development and lastly a mobile police station remain part of my big three plans from the last CBP meeting,” said Ngoepe.
“Another challenge is illegal dumping everywhere. My plan is to push the above-mentioned three major things.”
She said crime was on the rise and it needed everyone’s attention and unity to combat it.

Ngoepe said infrastructure remains a big challenge as transformers are not being replaced on time even when arrangements have been made to pay fines by residents. “Those will help to identify how many elderly people we have as a ward. How many qualified youths do we have who are roaming around abusing drugs because they don’t have anything to do and as a result, they are relapsing back to drugs.”

She said a mobile police station was going to assist residents to certify documents easily or to get affidavits and not take taxis to Ivory Park or Midrand Police Station to do this.
