Indlovu FC held to a third draw of the season by Varsity College
The second period of the match lacked any attacking cohesion, although the few chances that were created fell Varsity College's way.
Indlovu FC and Varsity College FC shared the spoils in an entertaining goalless draw on December 1 at Rabie Ridge Stadium in a Joburg men’s regional league clash.
Indlovu is still searching for their first win of the season while this was Varsity College’s third league match without a loss.
There were plenty of chances at both ends, with both goalkeepers making excellent stops to keep the scoreline level.
Three minutes into the match, Varsity College coach Dumisani Thusi brought on Sandile Marhwa for Calin Apollos and they could have taken the lead but Ryan Arends fired a shot straight to Indlovu’s keeper Ndivhawe Mawela following a Musa Mbatha in-swinger freekick.
An increase in tempo by College brought two sharp opportunities by Karl Errens and Arends.
Prior to halftime, the dominant Indlovu had its own opportunities as Sipho Sithole forced smart reflex saves from Varsity keeper Emeka Nkosi, and Sipho Gwaqubana drilled slightly wide from 20 yards.
The second period lacked any attacking cohesion by both teams although the few chances that were created fell Varsity College’s way.
As the match progressed Indlovu showed more intent in going for the win. Solomon Mokomane cut in from the left flank and fired a rocket that hit the crossbar before firing a free-kick from the edge of the box over the bar.
Indlovu later made double substitutions bringing on Shanon Booysen and Gift Mmala for Minientle Ragimana and Mokamane respectively to try and use the speed of the wingers.
A long ball from the back by Varsity College put Mawela in a one-on-one situation with Arends but Mawela fired his shot straight at the
keeper.
With seven minutes to play, the visitors thought they had found an opener but Mawela palmed Mbatha’s instinctive strike away.
Indlovu sits 15th on the log while Varsity College rises to fifth.
