Midrand Sector 3 Crime Forum and Kaizen Martial Arts and Fitness Academy have launched free karate sessions to teach children valuable defensive skills.

Sensei Chris Narainsamy who boasts more than 50 years’ experience in shotokan karate, hosted 10 children in their first class on October 22 at Gecko Jewellers in Crowthorne.

Narainsamy said, “We want to develop the kids and build progressive skills, improve overall fitness levels and increase motivation and self-esteem. My intention is to train and develop as many kids as possible, especially school-going children.”

Sector 3 forum chairperson Marvin Maphiri said, “This forms part of our community empowerment initiative. We thought it would be a great idea to partner with Kaizen Martial Arts and Fitness Academy to offer kids karate training. We see this as a good investment for the CPF as it will definitely help us in the future when it comes to crime fighting.”

The free sessions are held every Saturday from 08:30 to 10:30 until December this year, with a reasonable fee to be determined from next year.
