Animals in Distress celebrates World Animal Day

World Animal Day celebrations to be held at Society for Animals in Distress as they continue to educate people about animal rights and well-being while providing animals support to various communities.

Animal lovers at the Society for Animals in Distress (SAID) is celebrating World Animal Day in Vorna Valley, Midrand.

The day is celebrated globally on October 4, with the aim of observing and celebrating animal rights and their welfare respectively.

Admin and donor manager, Sally Tagg said this is an important day in their calendar year as they want to spend time with various animals they are treating at their base.

She urged community members to come and visit their facilities from 10:00 to 14:00 for the day’s celebrations as they will be walking around the premises and feeding animals.

“We are hosting a SAID Open Day and would appreciate it if you come and have a look at what we do and where your generous donations are going. Bring the kids and grandkids along for a fun-filled tour and a chance to feed our precious animals. Please bring along some yummy snacks (carrots and apples) for our animals, they would be so excited to welcome all of you,” said Tagg.

She said the farm does not provide adoption services as various SPCAs do.

“We collect and resell pre-loved goods and second-hand books to raise much-needed funds for our animals. SAID hosts an annual Golf Day and also partakes in other sporting events where our loyal supporters can run or cycle for a cause close to their hearts”.

SAID is an NPO that 100% relies on donor funding and was formed in 1958 by the late Didi Rutherford who had a passion for the well-being of animals.
