Young midfielder wins big at Risannah FC awards

As the awards came to an end, chairman Thembani Khosa and captain Elia Matjokotja cut the cake to celebrate the team's one year since its establishment in August 11.

Sensational midfielder Zipho Thandile Solwandle was a big winner at Risannah FC’s end-of-the-season awards.

The glittering prize-giving ceremony was held in Ivory Park’s TS Tsosane Primary School on July 6.

Zipho (19) walked away with player of the season, players’ player of the season and the player of the tournament in the Lerato Lamola Winter Games category. He took home a total of R4 000.

Yibanathi Tshotwana won the Defender of the Lamola Tournament category.

Sandile Lesley Mhlanga scooped Goalkeeper of the Season while Elia Matjokotja won Defender of the Season. Both took home R 1 500 vouchers each.

Top Goal Scorer Award went to the lethal striker Doctor Molten Khumalo. The 25-year-old forward scored 20 goals – six goals adrift of Midrand Local Football Association’s top goal scorer Gift Matjokotja from Indlovu FC – who scored 26 goals. He also received a R1 500 voucher.

Team chairman Thembani Clifford Khosa recognised the technical team and bestowed each member with a Chairman’s Award accompanied by a R2 000 voucher. The winners were head coach Noko R Maupye, assistant coach Takalani Gerald Rambau and team manager Joseph Mhlongo. Goalkeeper coach Jerry Msibi received a R3 000 voucher as he assists with the team’s financial commitments at times.

The award ceremony was also used to celebrate the team’s one-year birthday on August 11.

At the end of the awards ceremony, there was a cake-cutting by Khosa and captain Elia.

In their maiden season appearance in the Midrand Local Football Association, Risannah finished second and will be playing in the SAB Regional league next season.
