Midrand police arrested three suspects after a shootout with the police

Two suspects were injured during the exchange of fire with the police, and one fled the scene and was later arrested.

Three suspects were arrested by Midrand police officers on June 21 after the vehicle in which they were driving had no registration plate.

Midrand police spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane said, “The suspects, after noticing that they were being followed by the police, started to open fire towards the two officers and the police responded with fire.

“The suspects drove towards Bekker Road and were cornered at Hertford office park as there was no way out for them.”

Two of the suspects were wounded during the exchange of fire and one managed to flee the scene but was later caught.
During preliminary investigations, it was discovered that the suspects had stolen two TVs from different homes.

The two injured suspects were taken to the hospital for medical attention under police guard and the other suspect was detained at the station.

“All three suspects have been charged with attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and unlicensed ammunition.”.

Midrand Police Station Commander Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso commended the two police officers for such bravery in risking their lives in the name of upholding the Constitution and prevention of crimes.

“Their actions have proved their love for the job and patriotism. The members’ actions shall not go unnoticed and they shall be [commended] officially,” said Tsotsotso.

The suspects may be linked to other crimes and the police will request they be denied bail.

“We are sending a very clear message to other criminals to know that their day will also come, as Midrand is a no-go area for criminals. We will at all times work towards protecting our citizens together with their rights,” concluded Mabulane.
