‘Open your eyes’ orphanage receives donations

Founder of Bula Mahlo orphanage Regina Sekgobela says she is ecstatic with the donations from Connect To Feed as the donated items will go a long way for the children and the home.

Happiness was in the air at the Bula Mahlo [open your eyes] orphanage when Midrand-based NPO Connect To Feed visited to donate food parcels and warm winter clothes.

The home, which is based in Tembisa, homes about 30 children and was founded in 1989 by Regina Sekgobela.

The children received toys, stationery, school shoes as well as uniforms.

Sekgobela (78) said she was grateful for the donations after Connect to Feed also donated maize meal, rice and cooking oil.

“The orphanage started as a nursery school, but when the parents come back from work, they took their children and I was left bored. So I started an orphanage so that I can be with these children every day and treat them with motherly love,” said Sekgobela.

“Regarding today’s donation from Connect To Feed, I have no words to thank them enough. They really came through for us as a home when we really needed them.”

Co-founder of Connect To Feed Sarita Pandey said, “As Connect To Feed team, we are grateful and thankful to each and every passionate contributor who helped us to make this drive successful. Their generosity will be remembered at Bula Mahlo forever. Your [donors] contribution helped young kids to achieve their potential, empower them to lead healthier lives and strengthening the bonds of our community.” said Pandey.

She said we were still in winter season and its peak was yet to come, so their focus would be to reach out to underprivileged children and provide them with warm clothes in their next drive.
