Midrand police arrest a man for drug possession

HALFWAY HOUSE – The suspect was found taking drugs and still in possession of some after he was searched by the police.

A male suspect was arrested by the Midrand police tracing team during a foot patrol.

The suspect was seen taking drugs and when officers searched him, he was found in possession of narcotics on February 25.

According to Midrand Police Station acting commander Colonel Hosea Mantji, the suspect was arrested on South Street in Halfway House and was detained at the station’s cells.

Mantji condemned the consumption of illegal substances as it led people to commit crimes and could lead to the spread of disease.

“Some are even sharing drugs through injections. After one has injected himself, the others will draw blood with syringes to inject themselves which may lead to infection of STIs and viruses.
“We commend officers who are always on the streets to curb the crime. Most are sector managers who are trying daily to eradicate the crimes of [dealing in] drugs and robberies.”
