Le Roux Avenue pipe replacement project commences

VORNA VALLEY – The project is said to have started on January 22, and would take 5 months to complete.

Johannesburg Water (JW) announced that the old pipe replacement project on Le Roux Avenue in Vorna Valley had begun on January 22.

This follows delays and many complaints by residents and Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe as reported in Pipe project yet to begin [Week ending December 3].

Deppe had said a contractor was appointed and the project should have started six months ago with JW responsible for the project.
She had claimed that the old pipe was causing water supply disruptions due to its many leaks.

Former JW spokesperson Eleanor Mavimbela had said there was a delay in getting a new pipe installed because there had been a problem sourcing it, and they were anticipating a construction break in December. She had also mentioned that they were waiting for the City of Johannesburg to swear in councillors so that a community liaison officer could be appointed for the project.

After following up with JW recently, spokesperson Puleng Mopeli confirmed the project had commenced on January 22.

Mopeli said a public participation process had been conducted, adding that the project should take five months before completion.

“The scope of works is to install a 350mm diameter steel pipe, and it is 650m long…. a community liaison officer has been appointed,” she concluded.
