MELUSI RATEMA: Nothing will improve if we are still led by criminals. We wait far too long in public queues waiting for services. Why do we have to sweat blood and tears before we get services because elections after elections, the outcomes are always the same: lack of service delivery. Photo: Comfort Makhanya
Municipal elections were held last year and while some new councillors were sworn in as leaders of the communities, some remained as leaders of their area.
The Midrand Reporter asked residents if service delivery has improved in the area since the elections. This is what they had to say…
MARGARET MELVILLE: We are very lucky in the Glen Austin community as we have John Mphatsoe as the chairperson of the Glen Austin Residents Association so it is only through him that things are done in our community. we are truly great to him: Photo: Supplied LUNGELO BHEBHE: Every community needs the local municipality to provide basic needs and if the municipality fails to do so, then we will say they are providing poor services. So at the moment, I think we should give the winning party a chance to prove themselves then we will see if it has improved. Photo: Comfort Makhanya SANELE KHUZWAYO: Service delivery has not improved, reason being, unemployment still rises whereby people are not getting hired but they were promised job opportunities when voting. There is also a lack of infrastructure in most local areas. They are failing to give citizens what they have promised them. Photo: Supplied SAMSON NDLOVU: There is no consistency, today they deliver, tomorrow they do not show up. We just have to hope that the poor service delivery was caused by the festive season. All we need from our government is consistency. Photo: Comfort Makhanya ZODWA NUKERI: I think service delivery has improved, not that it was bad, we always had a good service delivery here.
