Residents complain about damaged roads to the JRA

AUSTIN VIEW — “It is now way worse with gullies half a meter deep in places,” said the residents.

Residents of Keeshond Road, Collie Close and other streets in Austin View are pleading with Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to repair the potholes and the enormous gullies caused by running water on the roads.

According to the residents, driving on the roads was difficult and their vehicles were regularly damaged driving through these potholes.

“We know Keeshond is not the main route but there is a school, a multi-unit complex, and a property with student accommodation all of who need to use the road and all of whom pay rates and taxes,” said Craig Reaper, one of the residents.

Reaper explained that the reason the roads were damaged was because City Power had dug trenches on the side of the road to bury cables. “The road [Keeshond] is now way worse with gullies half a metre deep in places,” he claimed.
In response to the matter, JRA noted that they were aware of the problems on that road.

“[JRA] had a meeting with the councillor yesterday, January 25, and they will be having a site visit with the councillor sometime next week. I will be joining them. I will give you feedback after the site visit,” said Mosa Makhalima, spokesperson for JRA.
