With back to school being the order of the day on January 12, Jubilate Primary School in Crowthorne welcomed this year’s Grade 1 bundles of joy.
Many of the seven-year-olds attended the first day of their schooling careers with their families, an event that saw parents filled with joy and emotions as they got to witness their children take a step in their journey to contributing to society.
The Midrand Reporter had a chat with parents and learners to see how they felt about the new beginning.
Learner Licebo Somfongo who just started the first day of his long learning journey said he was very excited and had no nerves.
When asked what he was excited to learn about Licebo added, “I am cool, I am excited, I can’t wait to start learning about sports, baseball in particular.”
One of the parents who accompanied her child into class, Neo Menwe, said she and her husband felt great having had the chance to accompany their son to school for his first day.
Menwe said she was excited to finally see him going into Grade 1. “I feel like he is a bit nervous, but any person will go through a change especially the first time being in class, which is normal.
“I am very happy for him. His brother always gives him advice, sometimes he scares him but we try not to allow that so we can have him go through the experience by himself and not take what his brother says,” said Menwe.
While ushering learners and parents into her school, Jubilate Primary School’s principal, Nadine Mack welcomed all her learners, especially the Grade 1s.
“We hope they have a good year. It is a big milestone for them to go to Grade 1, and we are looking forward to sharing the education and getting them to where they are meant to be, with them and their parents,” said Mack.
Mack concluded that the school was very excited to welcome the learners and the teachers were very prepared.
