The Love Trust talks about its highlights

PRESIDENT PARK – The school and organisation look at the challenges and successes of 2021.

The Love Trust’s Nokuphila School principal Themba Temba writes:

Founded in 2009, we are a South African non-profit organisation (NPO) with a vision to provide vulnerable children with quality Christian education and social care, which includes academic excellence, spiritual strength, and moral integrity.

We deliver quality education to primary school and pre-primary children at our Nokuphila School in Thembisa, Midrand and train black South African adult women as accredited early childhood development teachers qualified to teach grades 000, 00, and Grade R schoolchildren.

Highlights of 2021 include:

  • As a result of many Thembisa early child development closures due to Covid-19, we expanded our Nokuphila pre-primary to accommodate two more Grade 000 classes with 20 learners each, reaching 40 more children.
  • We hired qualified teachers, graduated through our Nokuphila teacher training academy, in our pre-primary school.
  • The Grade 4 pilot programme ‘School-in-a-Box’ has realised excellent learning outcomes in addition to it bridging the digital divide by making technology-based learning accessible to vulnerable communities.

Challenges we faced in 2021 were that funding has decreased significantly in the NPO space. The health and economic impacts, and subsequent disruptions to learning, as a result of the Covid pandemic, still have a significant impact, and as our learners are already in vulnerable circumstances – they face increasing daily challenges.

Our Nokuphila School principal, Themba Temba, is our hero as he leads the school and his team to achieve excellence in all aspects from academic performance through to giving children and the families the holistic care that is so important for them to thrive in the world.

It is our wish to ensure that all our learners and their parents go on holiday at ease knowing that some of their academic needs are already taken care of for the upcoming year. We would appreciate a donation of school bags for 120 pre-school learners, school shoes, food packs, tinned foods, stationery packs, scientific calculators, and feminine hygiene products.
