Mayoral committee ‘ready to fix the city’ – Joburg mayor

JOBURG – Johannesburg Executive Mayor Dr Mpho Phalatse is confident that this multiparty government was more than capable to deal with the task ahead and will get things done.


City of Johannesburg executive mayor Dr Mpho Phalatse has announced her mayoral committee which she believes is ‘ready to fix the city’ on December 13.

According to Phalatse, this followed weeks of negotiations between political parties to bring a stable government into the City. “I have no doubt that each member of this multiparty mayoral committee will do everything in their power to ensure the best results for the residents of this great city in each of their portfolios.”

 

Julie Suddaby of the DA was appointed MMC for Finance while Leah Knott, also of the DA, will return to the committee as MMC for Group Corporate and Shared Services.

The role of MMC for Transport went to Action SA’s Funzela Ngobeni and the DA’s Belinda Echeozonjoku takes up the position of MMC for Development Planning.

IFP’s Mlungisi Providence Mabaso was appointed the role of MMC for Housing, MMC for Economic Development went to Action SA’s Nkuli Mbundu while FF+’s France de Lange takes up the position as MMC for Health and Social Development.

ACDP’s Ronald Winston Harris was appointed MMC for Community Development while the DA’s Michael Sun returns to the committee as MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services.

MMC for Public Safety went to Action SA’s David Tembe, former chief of JMPD.

Phalatse added that she was confident that this multiparty government was more than capable to deal with the task ahead and will get things done.

“I am honoured to lead this team of dynamic MMCs as we get down to the task of getting things done in the City of Johannesburg,” said Phalatse.
