Help your teen make a paper mache aloe candleholder

Light up your child's room with this DIY paper mache aloe candleholder that's super fun to make and the perfect craft for teens.

Stuck for something fun and cost-saving to do with your teen over the weekend?  Paper mache is not only a fun craft for kids – it’s a fabulous and cheap way to make gorgeous home décor.

In the following tutorial, DIY YouTube vlogger, Jakob Morris, shows us how to make a beautiful aloe candleholder with paper mache.

What you need:

  • Thick and thinner cardboard (you can use boxes and cereal boxes)
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Masking tape
  • Newspaper
  • Tissue paper in white
  • Puff paint
  • Heat resistant spray paint in white

Top tip: In this video, a pillar candle was used in the centre of the paper mache aloe candleholder. For safety purposes, replace the pillar candle with a led tealight battery-operated candle instead.

Watch the video below to see how you could make paper mache aloe candleholders. Please take note that paper mache requires several layers, so the completed project will take you and your teens about three days (roughly 72 hours) to ensure it dries properly.
