New Jerusalem Children’s Home recently held their annual general meeting to give feedback on the year that was and plans in place for the coming year.

The siblings delivered a heartwarming speech as they took the audience down memory lane, since the year 2000 (when the home was established), to date.

Mojapelo-Difo said their home has seen exceptional developments over the years, which started with a double-garage that accommodated more than 24 children, to the present eco-friendly container house built out of 27 shipping containers.

She added the home accommodated 120 children and youth. “Our home is committed to use any means feasible to reuse and recycle, and to minimise our carbon footprint.

“Already, there is a domestic effluent system that converts all effluent to water used for irrigation and solar water heating for the existing buildings,” she added.

Mojapelo-Difo said they’ve been able to make their home self sustainable through the installation of boreholes and rain-water harvesting.

Mojapelo added, “The children also have a well-cultivated organic permaculture garden where vegetables are harvested.”
She concluded that New Jerusalem had continued to shine its beacon of light for vulnerable and abused children in society for 21 years and was committed to working with like-minded partners in protecting the children.

For all their efforts, the siblings received the Women Leading Change In Africa award on Africa Day this year.
