MIDRAND – Eliot Mabulane said the suspects were travelling in an Audi and a Toyota Hilux.

A Fidelity ADT security officer was shot dead on November 2 in President Park while seated in his vehicle on the corner of Modderfontein and Dale roads.

According to Joe Burrows, chairperson of Sector Crime Forum 1, he was alerted to the incident on local social media groups. He said he responded to the scene and found emergency medical services and a police officer on the scene. “The man was shot and his weapon was taken,” he added.

The spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Eliot Mabulane confirmed that the incident took place at about 17:40, adding that the suspects were driving in two vehicles, an Audi and a white Toyota Hilux with a canopy.

Mabulane added that according to the police’s investigations, one of the suspects approached the security official who was seated in his vehicle and demanded his firearm.
He added that a witness said he allegedly saw the security officer resisting, which resulted in the suspect shooting the officer twice in the upper body.

Mabulane said the suspects were still at large and a murder investigation was currently underway.
