Scary-good Halloween costume ideas for kids

Are the kids in your neighbourhood going batty getting ready for some spooky fun? Sunday 31^st October marks Halloween day and many families across South Africa will be celebrating by taking their children trick-or-treating or planning a scary-good event. If you plan to join in on the fun this year but have nothing to dress your child in when it comes to costumes, look no further than these five thrifty ideas…

1. Spooky skeleton: Use a black hoodie worn over the head and black pants. Then paint your child’s face with white paint and draw some black bones over the white paint.
2. Ghastly ghost: Traditional ghost in a sheet is as easy as it gets. You can get creative with a white sheet and scissors.
3. Royalty: Fit for a prince – and less adventurous: Dress as Prince William or Harry!
4. Mummy: With a few rolls of bandage, you can easily create a mummy from ancient Egypt.
5. Superhero: An easy and cost-effective way to dress up your child is to grab a mask of their favourite superhero and simply cut a hole in a sheet of black, white, or red material (depending on which superhero your child wants)to double as a cape. Sometimes, all you need to dress up younger children is a hat, crown, or wand.

Remember, you don’t need to break the bank on costumes. You can put together a great costume with a few basics that you may already have at home. Think newspapers, boxes, tape, materials, and get creative!
