Midrand police send a stern warning to alcohol abusers

MIDRAND – Spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Constable Eliot Mabulane said they had identified a commonality of reckless behaviour by motorists and residents due to the influence of alcohol.

Midrand Police Station has reported that they were worried about the abuse of alcohol by community members since the lifting of the alcohol ban.

In a statement released by the office of the Station Commander, Brigadier David Tsotsotso, spokesperson for Midrand Police Station Constable Eliot Mabulane said, on August 11, since the unbanning of alcohol under Level 3 lockdown, Midrand police saw it necessary to appeal to community members to be responsible while they were out drinking.

“This matter is being addressed to curb cases of common assault, assault and grievous bodily harm, rape cases and loss of property due to theft of motor vehicles and out of motor vehicles,” said Mabulane.

He added that they had identified the commonality of reckless behaviour by motorists and residents due to the influence of alcohol which resulted in many suffering injuries and receiving criminal records.

He reminded the community of Midrand that once a criminal docket was opened against them, it carried limitations to one’s opportunities such as getting a job and other business opportunities.

“To our youth and students living in Midrand, we need you to recognise that all the years you have worked hard for academically, will go down the drain once a criminal record is on one’s personal profile.

“On gender-based violence, we cry out to our men to avoid any conflict that might result in someone, women specifically, ending up with injuries or emotionally being scarred. Let’s all join hands together and protect the rights of women and children by being responsible men in our community.”

Mabulane concluded that as the country celebrated Women’s Month, Midrand Police Station wanted to wish each and every woman a very peaceful and prosperous Women’s Month.
