Online applications open for Gauteng schools

Online applications for Grade 1 and 8 admissions have officially opened.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) encourages parents and guardians to familiarise themselves with the systems and processes availed for public school applications for 2022. The online applications for public school admissions opened on August 10 and will conclude in November, according to the department.

MEC of Education Panyaza Lesufi said that Grade 1 and 8 applications will take place over two phases. “The first phase is for Grade 7 learners currently in public primary schools applying for Grade 8 and the second phase for Grade 1 and 8 learners not in Grade 7 in public schools.”

He added that this year’s application process has changed to make it easier and more manageable for parents, guardians, and public schools in Gauteng.

According to the department, the first phase opened on August 10 and will close on September 3. The second phase will commence on September 13 and close on October 8. The placement of phase one will happen between October 15 and November 30 while phase two will be between November 15 and November 30.

According to Lesufi, parents/guardians can expect to receive SMSs notifying them about the outcome of their application between October 15 and November 30, 2021 to which they must accept or reject an offer to confirm placement.

The department is aware that not all applicants have internet access and have therefore identified 47 decentralised walk-in centres in different areas where applicants will be safely assisted. Additionally, some district offices and the head office will serve as walk-in centres and information on these sites will be made available to the public via the GDE Website and social media platforms.

Only parents and guardians with children currently in Grade 7 in public schools going to Grade 8 in 2022 will receive an SMS from August 10 with the application link. Those who have not received this can visit www.gdeadmissions.gov.za
