Explaining what the month-long event was about, Jack Ntlhamu, the head of communications for Waterfall City AC said the Waterfall City Half Marathon is an inclusive, sociable, and socially conscious run. He added that the run was not only about fun but enjoyment and lots of excitement. “The race is a virtual half-marathon which can be run at a venue of your choice,” Ntlhamu said.

The Njoli family, Nyameko, Maxoli and Mangi, arrive near the finish line inside the Waterfall Mall yard.

“Runners will also be given the opportunity to run on the official race route on specific dates which are on August 14, 21 and 28. The race will be for the entire month of August and runners will have a chance of winning various random prices courtesy of our sponsors.”

Ntlhamu reiterated that anybody could take part in their race, from first-time runners to seasoned runners, young or old. “You have an opportunity to run at your own pace, with no pressure of large crowds and the associated anxiety given that we are still in the middle of a pandemic.”

Ntlhamu said that they believed supporting the community, especially charity organisations, was one of the ways they believed in shaping the society. “The event will serve as a fundraiser for our development and elites teams which participate in various championships in South Africa.

“This race will seek to contribute to designated charities in the Midrand area and will also be a platform to raise awareness on gender-based violence. A portion of the proceeds of this year’s event will also be donated to various charity organisations that are based in the Waterfall / Midrand community. One of which is Botshabelo which has always had a special place in our hearts, as their work in caring for vulnerable women and children is inspirational.”
