Midrand police officers along with private security officers apprehended a suspect on 17 June after he had allegedly stolen a cable from a generator at a business complex in Halfway House.

According to Midrand Police Station spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane, the security guards at the business complex alleged that their control room identified a suspect inside a generator cage where he was allegedly cutting a cable using a bow cutter.

“The security guard then proceeded to the site with his colleague where a man was found busy tampering with the infrastructure. After realising that he was caught red-handed in an act of criminality, the suspect attempted to flee with no luck.

Police were called for assistance and he was arrested.”

Mabulane said when the suspect was apprehended, police allegedly found him in possession of a length of the cable which will serve as evidence.

“The suspect was detained and has appeared in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court after being charged for tampering with business property.”

Mabulane concluded, “Midrand police are committed to their mandate to uproot any level of criminality. We commend the good work done by the security at the business place after they monitored their cameras and we hope and encourage that all businesses will do the same to help the police to curb crime.”
